Festival of Quilts

27 Aug

I have recently taken a keen interest in patchwork and quilts. I want to explore it further in my future work. I decided to attend the Festival of Quilts at Birmingham NEC to get to know more what it is about.

It was the first time I attended and I found it truly amazing. It was mind blowing to see how much you can create with patchwork and quilts. There are different ways to piece the fabrics together to create a design theme. You can work into the fabric using freehand machine embroidery, hand embroidery and also add beading, sequence and lace to create a 3 dimensional shape.

What I best liked was the design gallery exhibition. Designers had created their own fabric print using screen print, digital design and even painted an image on the fabric itself. It creates unique, extraordinary pieces that really stand out.

The whole exhibition seemed to be very popular with people huddled around the stands and the demonstrations. Having been thoroughly fascinated I hope to attend the exhibition when it is again held next year.

Here are some designs that were on display.
